Top: Zimmerman, Heath Flop: Jack Collins again, Brandon Sholl's brakes!
Zimmerman Wins; Sholl Doesn't Brake
Evgeny Zimmerman won the Bud 125 at Miami, dominating along with PJ Boucher and Landy Heath on a seperate pit strategy that found them in the pits for right side tires with 7 to go. Zimmerman would eventually lead and then held off Heath on a last lap dash after a late caution that saw Donnie Edwards, Jr. and Walter Green spin and collect Florent Vachon.
The big story however, was the massive crash on lap 21. Jack Collins and Ty Smith got together in what looked like a harmless crash in turn 2. However, Collins' car slid down the track and right into the racing line. Unfortunately, the rest of the field did not seem to want to keep him safe, as Brandon Sholl's #7 absolutely plowed into the 16, sending him flipping and sending multiple cars around in the nastiest wreck of the 2018 season.
There are no quotes and no medical problems that we are aware of, but drivers could not be reached post-race, as most were still in the medical center.
Zimmerman, though, was very happy to win.
"We ran well and my crew chief made an amazing call. I'm so lucky to have this team. With what this team with all the drama surrounding it right now, it's good to just go out there and race, have fun. That's what we did today, and I'm so proud and thankful for this opportunity."
