Spoiler:
Lachner frustrated with rookie teammate; Tipsun, Lanigan drama; Dwyer “defeated” following Chicagoland
The penultimate race in the 2018 AMP Energy Racing Series campaign was filled with drama to say the least. After Carson Crompton dominated and solidified himself as the favorite for the title, there was a mess between several drivers in the garage area.
Garth Enterprises has struggled once again to perform this year, but as of late had been turning things around. This week however, two of their drivers got together and caused an accident, involving cars 81, 82 and also 83. Lachner was turned by rookie Pat McKenzie which Lachner of course was none too pleased about.
“I don’t understand it. Dude just flat out turned me. I don’t want that from a teammate. Thats inexperience if I have ever seen it. That’s just sickening to me.”
McKenzie defended himself, saying “I washed up the track and spun him. It was my fault and I take full responsibility, but to hear that from someone I try to look up to and someone I can get direction from, it’s super disappointing. I made a mistake, you don’t have to go public with comments like that.”
Needless to say, there will be some awkward meetings at Garth Enterprises this week.
Perhaps an ever bigger story involving drama occurred when Derek Lanigan seemingly finally got what he wanted and dumped the 18 of Jordan Tipsun after trying two separate times beforehand in the tri-oval. The 1 took out several cars in the mayhem including then-points leader Caine Dwyer.
Sylvia Tipsun, Jordan’s wife, was seen walking back to her motor home where reporters caught her saying, “If i do that on the highway I go to prison! That’s incredibly dangerous.”
The two teams brawled in the pits for a short time by the #1 pitbox but nothing major in terms of injuries came out of it. The drivers were interviewed shortly after.
Tipsun: “I’m not going to comment. I’m mad yes but I can’t do anything there. I thought it was an accident the first time but after two separate tries I just wanted to get away from him but we couldn’t. It sucks for my guys and I’m just happy everyone is alright to be honest with you.”
Lanigan: “Yeah, uh I know I’m public enemy number 1 right now but it was a good season and I’m proud of the 1 team this year after all they went through this season. We fought hard every week.”
Caine Dwyer saw his championship lead vanish and sink into the ground following that accident. Dwyer now sits 4th in the standings, 93 points behind leader Carson Crompton.
“I thought we had a car to win today. We had a bad stop and then the day spiraled out of control. We were in the back and my car honestly wasn’t near as a good as it was in clean air and the adjustments we made didn’t do anything good. Shouldn’t have been where we were in the first place but either way it sucks being caught up in someone else’s mess, especially at this point where we’re fighting for a title.”
Carson Crompton holds a 67 point lead over Mikael Carter entering the final race of 2018. Points scenarios are expected to be published soon.
