Frankie Stewart Emotional After Boston Victory
A tear or two flowed down Frankie's face in victory lane as he spoke to Austin Hackk, trying to keep his emotions in check. Frankie Stewart has been through a lot in his AARO racing career. Being a highly touted prospect hasn't been going too smooth for the young Stewart. Chautier Motorsports took their time with the youngster, but ultimately, Stewart was passed up on the depth charts for different talents and a new team direction. This left Stewart in an awkward position entering 2018.
The 2018 offseason saw his life completely change, when he was traded to Keith Davis Motorsports' Development team just three weeks before Livonia weekend. Stewart had to pack up his entire life in Quebec to move to the province of Ontario with KDM. Stewart told reporters he couldn't even focus on racing due to the transition he had of moving. Stewart currently resides in a downtown Toronto condo, where he commutes by taxi or uber every day to the shop.
Needless to say, it's been a rollercoaster year already.
"We just...I don't know, we just had it today." said the emotional Stewart, trying to find words, "Something clicked for us and for me. It's special. I don't know what to say. I've never felt this before."
Stewart led 60 laps and battled rookie Troy Schmidt all race long, edging him out of the pits with 25 to go and passing a slow Tyler Keller who stayed out, to take the lead for good. A late race yellow slowed the field one final time, but Stewart pulled away on the restart with just 4 laps to go.
Ty Smith's Ignition Fails...Before the Green Flies
Ty Smith didn't even get to run a single lap after the ignition failed on his #1 machine during pace laps.
"I thought something was wrong so I brought 'er into the pits to check it out." said the always grateful Smith, "Sure enough, boom, day done. Either way, gotta thank the lord for everything, after the Glen I'm just glad to be here. We'll get 'em next week."
Smith finished last and sits last in the points after finishing a dismal 32nd last week.
All 3 Chautier Cars Retire
Despite promising prospects Ian Fallon, Miles Marcou, and Wayne Saunders, all three Chautier Development cars retired early in the Boston 125. The only one who didn't retire off a wreck was Saunders. None of them were reached for comment, but one has to believe the team isn't happy they traded the winner of this race just 6 weeks ago and ended up with this result. Either way, it's still early. Breathe, Chautier fans.
Yuill Climbs Through Field, Finishes 8th, Not Happy with Hart, still
Top JN prospect Mike Yuill drove from 32nd to finish 8th in his #9 Giant Tiger Dodge, avoiding accidents and slowly working his way up each run, further solidifying his top prospect pedigree. However, he had choice words for Tyler Hart, driver of the #30, who turned him last week.
"We had a great car, with we did better in qualifying but we were real good today. I'm happy." he said, "But it's a shame Tyler Hart was able to race this weekend. Would have loved to see some punishment for him and Underwood, but of course both finish well this week. Not happy with that but I'm not going to dwell on that. We ran well, I'm happy, we'll take this to Daytona."
Hart, meanwhile, had a good day, however did not like being called out by Yuill.
"We've been in two ****ing races. Chill, bro. We ain't even have anything to do with eachother today. Just relax, my man, take a chill pill."
