Such a great driver taken away from us too soon. Not just a great driver though, a great person. We as racers know how dangerous of a sport it is when stepping into a car. None of us want to face the reality of the possibility that fatal racing accidents happen but unfortunately they do.
R.I.P. Dan Wheldon. Prayers are with his family.

Which car was Wheldon? Looking at the replay I can't tell which car he was.

R.I.P. to a great driver. I feel bad for not liking him before this. I was so excited to watch this race and to see the wreck live and the announcement live is just heart braking.

He was the car who piled into that mess of spinning cars.

I think he was the only one to catch fire in the air.

Oh my gosh...
I can't believe this. Wheldon was such a promising young driver, and he was still in the early stages of what could have been a long and healthy career. He did not deserve this, without a doubt.
I never thought I'd have that interest in motorsport long enough to be around when a man died in the act.
I'm not going to point fingers, I'm just curious, what caused the accident? I haven't seen what happened yet.

Dan was one of my main inspirations to watch Indycar, it sucks to see him die doing what he loved.

...I am disgusted at how that was worded.
When I first heard about this news, I thought it was a joke. An utter joke. I looked it up, and when I saw it wasn't a joke, I almost fainted out of shock. That is NO exaggeration. A fantastic driver whose career and life had no reason to be cut so short. Rest in peace, Dan Wheldon. Race on in Heaven. Full condolences to all of his family.
I remember back in I think 2005 I attended my lone Indy 500 to date. I met Dan and had him autograph a t-shirt. I was thrilled to see him win. I was a major fan of Dan. I'm never wearing it again.

He was 2nd to get airborne. JR Hildebrand was first, then Dan, then Pippa and last was Will Power.

He was champion 6 years ago...he was a veteran, not the early stages of his career...
