LT Motorsports starts out the year big at Daytona
It's almost hard to believe that things can turn out differently in a year's time, this seems to be the case for LT Motorsports.
Last year, both cars failed to qualify for a majority of the races, and when they did make a race, most of the times, they wrecked... badly! Though the team's bright spot were superspeedway races. Louis Tellez had a good run at Daytona last year... until he got on his roof 7 laps in the race and both ran well at Blue Ridge, especially Shawn Donnelly as he won the race in his debut.
This year, many had thought that the same fate would happen... they were wrong!
Louis Tellez and Shawn Donnelly both had dominant cars in the Daytona 200 and suprised, even shocked, all those that doubted them as Tellez scored his very first AARO AERS victory at the World Center of Racing while Donnelly in his Daytona debut finished a strong 3rd.
Tellez was in shock when he spoke to ASN reporters in victory lane:
"Oh Man! I can't believe I won at Daytona! This is unbelievable!
First of all, gotta thank Walmart, Coke, Chevy, Subway, Dell, Rockstar and all of our sponsors for sticking with us after what we through last year, it's almost hard to believe really! Gotta thank everyone back in the shop, gotta thank my family, friends and the fans cause they certainly got their money's worth tonight."
Tellez spoke about the winning pass and the problems with Josh Mertz
"You know, I respect Josh for what he's done in NORA, but this ain't nothin like NORA, we race hard, we race strong and we race competatively and Josh needs to realize that and for a first year team in AARO, take it from experience, new teams are hit or miss. But you know, it's complete irony that a slow lap car is what won me the race, and you know I feel bad for Jerry (Richson) there, if it weren't for Gerralds, it was gonna come down between me and him. But these things happen, can't help it."
Donnelly also spoke to reporters on his race:
"Can't say enough about these Rockstar Energy guys, they gave me a car good enough to possibly win here, but I'm happy to see Louis win here, he desereved it tonight. I think we showed people that LT Motorsports has what it takes to make it in AARO, sure we were a year late, but these things take time. You'll see, Louis and I we'll be there in contention for the win and hopefully for the championship this year."
