The #38 of Joey Johnson started on the pole and was looking for Q-race redemption after the last short track he attempted, Salem, ended with a crash out of 2nd place and a DNQ. He got off to a good start, leading until lap 3 when Jen Smith, the newest demotee to the qualifying heats, got around him.
A few laps later, Jalen Scransen and Siam Rossini were involved in separate incidents that saw them spin down the backstretch. Rossini in particular impacted the pit wall hard with the back end of her Nissan.
On lap 12, outside pole sitter Austin Kingston had his engine explode on him while running in 6th place. Darn shame for that young man. However, there were bigger troubles imminent, as CJ Long got into Brian Wilson while slowing to avoid the #44, triggering a multicar incident involving Matt Contey, Mike Johnson, David Lee Bibson, Tyler Deefer, Jared Kash, and Brandon Corna. Most of them, however, received minimal damage and went right on.
Kimo Talofa spun into the pits off the front of Corna's car on lap 23, and promptly exited the race. Team owner Jared Pierce was rumored to have stated in the pits after the crash that Talofa's ride has been in doubt for a while. Nothing has been confirmed yet, however.
The Black Cat of Nate Knowitall grabbed the lead on lap 32, and two laps later, Brad Simmons and Kenny Gerrelds were racing for second when their Fords touched and Gerrelds crashed into the pits. Gerrelds was naturally not happy, and a copious amount of fans in #14 gear were reportedly seen turning off their scanners in shock after the wreck.
Lap 45 brought us by far the scariest wreck of the day when Lorenzi Rossini pushed down into Daniel Micks and Joey Johnson on the frontstretch. Rossini and Johnson side-impacted the turn 1 wall, sending Rossini flipping 10 feet high through the air and slamming the concrete barrier. Johnson climbed over the wall and did two barrel-rolls, landing on his roof.
Jen Smith retook the lead on lap 67. That same lap, Mack DiCario got spun into the pits by David Lee Bibson, drove through, then spun again coming out, missing Smith's car by several feet. The resulting caution saw Tyler Deefer stay out, and he led the field to the restart. The slow car of Kenny Gerrelds, however, held everyone up majorly and ended up in a 4-wide situation on the frontstretch, spinning off the front bumper of Mack DiCario, and tagging Wendy Fisher who went on to ride up the turn 1 wall and flip back down the track. She would keep going, however...
until literally the exact same thing happened on the lap 80 restart. No, I'm not even kidding. Gerrelds held everyone up AGAIN, and Fisher flipped AGAIN after Jared Kash and Matt Contey pushed her up into the turn 3 wall. And she kept going. AGAIN.
Tyler Deefer had no choice but to pit, meanwhile, giving Knowitall the lead on the lap 90 restart, and he promptly pulled away a bit. Smith was starting to gain on him until lap 94 when Matt Contey and Jerry Richson spun in turn 1.
The race managed to get restarted with exactly one lap to go. Third-place Landon Rody pulled under Smith AND Knowitall coming into turn 1 and drew even with the 83 on the backstretch. Rody nearly cleared him, but Knowitall got the Magic Run off Turn 4 and beat the #88 to the finish line by half a car length.
