The track was expected to be slicker than in normal race conditions due to this heat beginning at 1:30 PM (as opposed to 7:30 PM, the start time for the Verizon 300). However, clouds rolled in about half an hour before the start, and this was quickly remedied.

The same could not be said for the situation 3rd-place starter Joey Johnson found himself in, though, when he came off Turn 4 on Lap 2 pushing like a dump truck and as a result shoved right into the side of Daniel Micks' fourth-place car, rebounded onto the apron, tried to merge in turn 1 and ended up not having Brian Wilson cleared. This resulted in the #38 going head-on into the wall and the #36 going along for the ride. Both would go out of the race after not even three laps.

About halfway through the event, Grant Jacobs bumped Jared Kash between turns 3 and 4, sending him into the outside barrier and resulting in damage that would take him behind the wall.

Ross Lowrey made quite an agressive three-wide move for the transfer spot around lap 30, splitting Bruce Wilkinson and the lapped car of Donnie Edwards, Jr. by literally about two inches on either side. It surprisingly ended up paying off, as he made up four more spots afterwards.

Jerry Richson got off to a great start and led...pretty much the whole race, although Siam Rossini, who shocked the rest of the field by not only getting in but finishing SECOND, made some valiant runs at him towards the end of the event. Props to her and her teammate Lorenzi Rossini, who will race together in an AERS event for the first time since the 2010 Kmart 200 at Portland.

83 in, 38 out (nothing unusual). Hope the 8 stays locked-in...

Joey Johnson has been cleared to race, but advised not to, as his injuries are appearantly easy to re-aggravate.

Lukas Kronenberg will be his replacement until further notice.
