Halfway through the season. We have seen many great drivers rise among some of the best of the best. We have yet to have a repeat winner....
I will be posting an awards voting topic at the end of the season. I just wanted all to get my thoughts and votes SO FAR. (Theres a lot.)
Most Improved Driver: Right now, there is no other driver that can compete with Jack Cronin-Walter. Despite a few penalties and bad runs, the guy has been up in the front of the points standings for a long time. Last year, not only did he have a mediocre points position, he also lost sponsorship with K&N as their primary sponsor, losing alot of money in the stable. He has definitely driven past his expectations so far.
Driver of the Year: Yes, I am going to have to go with Justin Pisani. After starting off the year with a 29th at Daytona, a 28th at Grand Detour, a 26th at Rattlesnake Point, and a 25th at Blue Ridge, he sat as low as 31st in the points. He, at the halfway point in season 2, has worked his way up to 3rd in points. He sat 1st for a race, but abysmal luck, fell back to 3rd. The 2008 Champion also took home his second AERS trophy, but this one was not a championship trophy, it was a win. What makes that win even more amazing, is that it was his first road course win. Ever. At a track he said "sucked" in practice. His qualifying performances have picked up as well. 1st at Nox and 4th at SUAR. Expect him to be running for the championship at the end.
Driver with the Worst Luck: This is no question, Nate Knowitall has gotten an average of 39th and a best finish of 37th in the three races where he stayed out of trouble in the qualifying race. In fact, he is behind a few one off cars from McKinley in the Points, who have only attempted one race. NLRS racing has struggled, their one off wrecked on the first lap at McKinley as well...
Best Race of Season 2: This was the hardest poll for me to choose from...there were multiple choices that I could've chosen. Daytona, Grand Detour, Blue Ridge, McKinley....I bet there will be many more as the season winds down. Twin Ring Motegi in my book was the best race. Not too cautionfull, not boring and it had a good finish. Paul Schuler came victorious in a race that Brandon Ultsch could see himself standing in victory lane. Paul capitalized on the Green and White - Checkered.
Worst Race Of Season 2: Houston.....ZZZZZZZZZ. Nox, Houston, SUAR and Rattlesnake Point could've easily all won this one. But in my opinion, Houston was just plain terrible.
Worst Wreck Of Season 2: Well, besides the Carl Jones fatal incident, and Brad Simmons season ending wreck (They were in Q Races, so I didn't pick them), I would say the the candidates for this one would be: The Louis Tellez Daytona Barrel Roll, the Louis Tellez Grand Detour barrel roll, Jorge Hernandez's 200ft in the air ride at McKinley, Fred Jone's Big Hit at Carbondale, or Jack Lucas Samson's Lap 1 big one barrel roll at Coca Cola. Out of all those choices, I would have to go with Samson's wreck. Reason being, that he was rolling pretty much on top of the pile of cars sliding down the turn 4 banking, and because he drilled the wall and flipped at 180+ Miles Per Hour.
Worst Driver Error Of Season 2: Fred Jones, what a way to open the season. Going pretty much below minimum speed and holding up EVERY SINGLE car that got near him. Wait, what? There's two selections here! Bobby Zolorno made a fool out of himself at Carbondale. Justin Pisani lost all respect for him that race (He also hates his last name...like i do). He was called to the hauler after blocking Justin Pisani, who sat in second, who had a pretty good shot at overtaking Jorge Hernandez for the top spot. Why is it so bad? He was a lap car. When you're a lap down, slow up and let the leaders go by!
Best Finish: McKinley. No need to say anymore.
