Spoiler:
Glossum finishes 2nd; Dwyer, Carter both frustrated leaving Vancouver
Shawn Glossum has had a year that would probably be considered a nightmare by most considering his pedigree leading up to this season. The veteran has been a victory lane visitor several times over the years and in his third year at JN Motorsports it seems as if that aight has gotten away from him a little bit. This weekend at Vancouver, Glossum ran well, staying out of trouble and ended up in the drivers seat as leader Casey Lester ran out of fuel with three laps to go. Unfortunately for Glossum, ACS Racing’s dominance would not rest, and Carson Crompton pulled a savvy inside move under the 9 car to take his second win of the season.
Glossum, wasn’t too upset, despite victory lane being so close.
“With the way this race unfolded I’m going to take this second place finish and be happy, man.” he said, “Yeah, you know I wouldn’t have won without my man Casey running out so I probably deserved 2nd anyway. But congrats to Carson, wish we had a lil more time but we’re all just happy to move to Colorado next weekend.”
Glossum moves up considerably in the standings, and awaits his future with JN Motorsports as we approach the deadline following Pikes Peak.
“Regardless of what happens, JN will always hold a special place in my heart, man. I’ve loved every minute of it and obviously I don’t want to be moved but this is a business and I got nothin but respect for everyone here regardless, man.”
Teammate Mikael Carter, driving injured and with a standby in the pits, had a rather quiet yet still somehow eventful race. Carter was involved in “the big one” part 1 in the middle stages of the race, and really couldn’t do much of anything the entire length of the event.
“You’re going to have bad races,” he said, “Well, unless you’re on ACS Racing, that is. We just didn’t have any luck today and that’s just the way she goes sometimes. I don’t really have much to say but we will be back next week, for sure.”
Carter loses the points lead and now sits 84 points behind in a suddenly lopsided championship battle.
Point contender rookie Caine Dwyer also had a rare poor race, his #10 retired in 32nd after being involved in multiple accidents at Vancouver.
“It was just a race of attrition,” he remarked, “We just weren’t one of the guys to survive today in this battle royale. Happens, we’re not exactly used to these kind of weekends so we’ll have to see what we can do and refocus at Pikes Peak. Adversity comes at any point in the season, it’s just how you overcome it where champions are made. We’re a rookie team but I know we’ve got the talent and work ethic to go out and finish this season off right, so I’m excited to get to Colorado.”
Jordan Tipsun was this week’s driver you love to hate. Tipsun was caught up in about 6 wrecks today, and his #18 was absolutely detrimental to how the closing stages of the race played out. Couple that with contact with teammate Jalen Scransen late in the race, and you have yourself a flop candidate. Tipsun was not pleased following the race.
“Look, all Ill say is that we work too hard to be criticized like we are already right now. I’m damn sure none of you people can do what my guys do, and it’s a shame we’re being shoved in that light. We’re trying hard out here, trying to gain points to get in this title hunt, but this series ain’t easy.”
Carson Crompton and Tipsun both left the AARO hauler with no confirmed penalties or fines.
