Chad Lapinski has had a really rough start to his 2018 campaign. This weekend at Willow Point, Lapinski was in contention early on before polesitter Shawn Glossum got into the 88, causing a 3-car accident that surprisingly, caused no yellow.
"Yeah, you know, Shawn's a great guy, but man oh man, he was way too aggressive today. I'm really frustrated by that incident, we didn't deserve what we got today." said Lapinski.
Glossum, was unapologetic, stating that, "its racing".
"We had a good car and it unfortunately didn't go our way." he said, "However, I'm not real pleased with Chad's comments. He acts as if I completely dumped him. We got into eachother and that's just how racing goes sometimes. We both had solid racecars and it is a shame that we both finished poorly, know what I'm sayin'?"
Lapinski was not the only Garth Enterprises driver who was frustrated with a JN driver, as Aaron Gallagher and Patrick McKenzie both weren't pleased with JN Motorsports drivers Mikael Carter and Seth McGuire. Gallagher wasn't pleased with McGuire's actions after being wrecked late in the race.
"Seth's an idiot," said Gallagher, "What in god's name was he trying to do? I'm at a loss for words, it doesn't make sense."
McGuire had no comment after the event, and was likely frustrated by his incident itself.
Mikael Carter and Pat McKenzie were seen talking after the race, and both seemed pretty mellow following their conversation. Carter said, "Obviously I didn't mean to get into him, although we were just all three squeezed into eachother. There wasn't much any of us could do, hate it for everyone in there, but it wasn't my fault. Congrats to Jack, about time that team did something."
Madison Vermette finishes 2nd.....again
Madison Vermette has been a rising rookie this year in the AMP Energy Racing Series. A promising start that has yet to see the winners circle despite finishing 2nd several times including his 2nd in a row this weekend at Willow Point. Vermette wasn't frustrated but encouraged by his teams' performance.
"You know what," he said, "I absolutely [expletive]-ing suck at road courses, so to come out with a runner up position is quite an accomplishment for me personally. For our team, we're just going to keep chugging along here. I'm sure if we keep piling up these 2nd's then we're going to be the champions. And I'm more than happy with that. Love my guys, they've been awesome all year and they did it again today."

Spoiler:
Noting this is only the 2nd time in AERS history that NONE of the top-10 in qualifying finished in the top-10. Pretty cool stat, especially at a roadie.

Jimmy Cohon Unhappy with Seth McGuire
After Seth McGuire’s accident during green flag stops, many were confused by the 6’s lack of judgement as he tried to correct the car out of the dirt gravel and back onto the racing surface. In the process, McGuire took out Jimmy Cohon as well as Aaron Gallagher. Cohon, who is having a nightmare season, met with the media following the race.
“At this point I’m just expecting something bad to happen every week.” he said, “What’s frustrating is how it is happening. We’ve got a rookie driving way over his head, making stupid decisions out there and ruining the races of not only Aaron and I, but I’d be upset if I’m Carson Crompton right now too. Just an embarrassing thirty seconds for the kid there. I’m at a loss for words.”
McGuire was not reached for comment and declined availability to the media center following the race. Seth McGuire has had a real nice rookie campaign so far this season, but clearly things are getting a bit tough for him in his Giant Tiger Dodge.
If there’s one thing this season that has stayed consistent, it is the finishes of star rookie Caine Dwyer. The rookie sensation continues to pile up strong finishes each week. His worst finish was still in the top-20, which, despite a points penalty last week, keeps him solidly in position to win the 2018 title. He backed it all up this weekend with a solid drive from 33rd up to his 8th finishing position, and exclaimed it is all about the consistency.
“Yeah, obviously I would love to get my first win, but these guys just continue to pump out good race cars for me week after week.” he said, “It’s impressive what we are doing here. We know what to focus on, we know if we have a bad qualifying effort that we aren’t in trouble, and we come back home with good finishes every race. I’m very impressed and very confident in our group.”
Dwyer has gained quite a bit of hatred on social media platforms and from fans all over the world for his penalty, in addition to his championship performance thus far, but he says that doesn’t bother him.
“You can’t change what people think of you sometimes. We’re here to run well and get a title, and when people don’t like you when you haven’t done anything but that, it’s a good sign you’re doing well. We love it, it fuels us. We’re here to stay.”

Spoiler:
Despite Jerry Richson himself having an awful day, for the first time in years, he finds Victory Lane with Jack Jefferson!
Jack Jefferson first made his way onto the AERS circuit as a one-off driver for years before finally getting picked up with The UnNamed Team (Now Jerry Richson Motorsports) but struggled to find his footing as a full-time driver. However, despite all this, Jack Jefferson shocked everyone including himself pulling off the Victory by leading the most important lap. Jack Jefferson normally a quiet person both on and off track was very emotional in Victory Lane with his whole team celebrating with him.
"We didn't have the best car all day, I will admit that but we got lucky with how the yellows fell. On that last restart, we had the lead, lost it, and then made a big move on the white flag lap and it worked. Words can not express how amazed and happy I am that we got the Victory and at a track I saw my life before my eyes no less. This is simply incredible, I got a great team here and to finally get a Victory for this team; its been so long, 8 long years! I was still doing one-offs back then so its special to remember those days and its incredible to see where we have ended up. *wipes away tears* A lot of people said I was getting too old for this but I think I made a statement today showing that I can do this and I know it's early in the season but I hope this is just a major stepping stone to catch some of those top-tier teams and battle for the championship."
Greg Knee, who helped Seth McGuire around after a brain fade, comes home 6th. Another top 10 for Knee but who cares about him.
Jerry Richson, who hit everything but the Ice Cream Stand today, finished 20th.
Both Knee and Richson were seen with Jefferson in Victory Lane, celebrating his maiden win.
