Spoiler:
Jimmy Barley wins at Livonia; Roberts finishes 2nd
It’s been a rough career for Jimmy Barley, who has lived behind the spotlight of his younger brother Ryan his whole life. Things at times have gotten pretty bad for the eldest Barley. Jimmy struggled with mental illness after his passionate racing career has fallen into a hole he basically cannot climb out of. You could say he’s mentally fragile when it comes to confidence on the track, he often misses prime opportunities and runs poorly with great race cars. But if there’s one thing Jimmy Barley knows how to do, it’s race one of the AAROs signature pickup trucks.
Today at Livonia, Jimmy Barley secured his third truck series victory, taking the lead with 3 laps to go and holding off rookie Dean Roberts to win the prestigious race. Barley’s Gatorade truck wasn’t the fastest all weekend, and certainly wasn’t very noticeable until the very end of the event.
“I’m relieved to say the least,” said Barley in victory lane, shortly after getting drenched in his sponsors signature drink, “We unloaded and weren’t very quick, and I told the guys I’m not feeling too comfortable on the track. But after pit stops something clicked in my head and with the truck, we were finding new ways to approach every turn, every lap, and man, we came out flying. It means a lot to me, my family, this team, everyone to be here in this moment. I’m at a loss for words right now, Jeff [Klinger].”
In what was a feel good story to end the race, another story was the strong performance from Dean Roberts, making his truck series debut for JN Development in the #52 truck. He started 2nd and while he didn’t lead any laps, would finish in 2nd as well.
“It was a solid day. I’m real proud of the guys,” he exclaimed, “I know I have a lot to learn but what I’ve been blessed with here just makes this a bit easier. We’ve got a long road ahead of us, but we’re just gonna take it one day at a time and keep on rollin’ here.”
Patterson and Hutchinson, Jr. had lackluster days, with Patterson leading 13 laps and dropping to finish 19th, while Tim Hutchinson, Jr., dropped to 25th after being collected in a wreck. The two were seen talking but would not answer any media questions and declined their post race media invitation.

Spoiler:
Nick Santiago the only spotlight for Powell Racing; other 2 drivers involved in lap 43 wreak
Driver comments after the race:
Nick Santiago: "Wow I can't believe I just finished 3rd today, holy shit! I suck at qualifying, but the guys gave me one hell of a truck out there, we had been pretty fast all weekend so I knew that we had a chance at finishing really well, but not this well! I can't wait for the next race and hopefully have another good run."
Dustin Boden: "I hate that I got involved in a crash started by my teammate because the #62 truck was very fast to start the race. We tired to get it back out, but the radiator was destroyed and the nose was completely caved in. We'll go to the next race and try not to get in a crash."
Charles Daughtry decline to have an interview as he was clearly upset at himself for causing the big crash on lap 43 and getting one of his teammates in there as well.

Spoiler:
Darrel Lawton: Great start for us, man. We done worked all week to get this truck where it needed to be n' once we got it, I had no problems. Glad to put Popeye's in a good spot n' I hope we get to do it again and again all season.
Will Mazzone: Just tough to get caught up in a mess that didn't really need to happen. Sucks for the guys on this QuickChek team, but I guess there ain't much I could have done looking back. Guess we gotta duck our heads low and push to get a better result next week. I feel like we've got enough speed to compete this year and yeah, that sounds cocky, but I wouldn't say it if I don't believe it.
Martin Jackson: Hey, we're testing the engine department early! *laughs* But it's unfortunate to start the year off this way. Hoping it's not gonna be a trend, but guess there's some stuff we need to get worked out and it's better to have this happen early in the year.
