| NNRCS To Run Test Race At Talladega In Spite of Dan Wheldon's Fatal Wreck
We all know racecars can go pretty fast. We've seen cars from right up to eachother's bumpers at 200 miles an hour. When somebody makes a mistake in those conditions, you are immediately at risk of putting yourself of a fellow competitor's life on the line.
Dan Wheldon was killed in an IndyCar wreck at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. His car's cockpit hit the catchfence. He didn't have a chance. Unfortunately, this seems to have been a re-occuring theme with open-wheel cars. The same thing killed Jeff Krosnoff in 1996, it critically injured Kenny Brack in 2003, and it killed Russell Phillips in a stock car in 1995.
Testing runs have shown that open-wheel cars have gone beyond 220 MPH at Talladega. That's almost how fast Dan Wheldon and his competitors were going when the wreck happened. To be safe, NNRCS has announced they will run a test race first thing next season. If things get out of hand, Talladega will be pulled from the Open Wheel Division schedule.

Yes, I'm referencing real-life events here. That's how I'm going to run my league. | |
