Austin F1 Track Layout Revealed

Well, incase all of y'all missed it. The track layout for the F1 track in Austin, Texas, which will host the US Grand Prix in 2012, was revealed yesterday.

Here's the layout:

Here are the details on this track:

-3.4 mile course

-20 turns

-3 different layouts, longest being the F1 layout

-133 ft of elevation change, 3rd biggest next to Spa and Suzuka

The track was designed by Herman Tilke, who has been credited for making or redesigning several tracks on the F1 schedule, such as:

-Hockenheim
-Fuji
-A1-Ring
-Sepang, Malaysia
-Bahrain
-Istanbul
-Shanghai
-Marina Bay, Singapore
-Valencia, Spain
-Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
-South Korea
-Jaypee, India

This design is something different for Tilke, he has taken elements of 3 current F1 tracks into this track:

-Turns 3-7 resemble the Maggots and Becketts S-corners from Silverstone

-Turns 12-15 are a carbon copy of the Stadium section from Hockenheim

-Turns 16-18 will be similar to Turn 8 at Istanbul Park

All in All, the track (from a design standpoint) looks good, as far as how it'll do race wise, we'll see in 2 years time.
