| - Spoiler:
Sodrznik, Lamar take home Berlin victories
It was a tame weekend at Berlin for the MRT guys, in their second race in Michigan and third in the midwest while the AERS is in Daytona. The field in both events was racey, but not very entertaining for a lack of a better term. There was little urgency and it seemed as if most of the guys competing were just trying to figure this quirky 0.4 mile oval out.
In race 1, experience proved to be the difference, as veteran MRT driver Tyrone Lamar, looking to reestablish himself as a proven driver, took home his second win in three races. Lamar took the lead from Nick Kelly in the 99 with just 37 laps to go, and would ride out the rest of the event that only saw one yellow fly due to an incident on the front straightaway involving Junior Larouche and Preston Bell.
Lamar was pretty ecstatic in the winners circle. “Man, we gotta be one of the best here,” he said, “We out here makin a name for ourself ya know? It’s not a good thing to see us doing well, nope. We out here proving everyone wrong, write it down.”
Meanwhile, Junior Larouche saw his bid to drive up through the field end on Lap 65 when he made contact with the outside wall in turn 4, sending his JN Dodge into Vladdy Mraz and collecting Preston Bell in the process. The shy Larouche said, “Just a bad deal on my end. We were just not that good this weekend but we still coulda salvaged a decent finish. It’s my bad, I need to start performing.”
In race 2, it was Aljosa Sodrznik of Slovenia who drove through the field and absolutely dominated, leading 93 of the race’s 100 laps, marred by only one yellow for debris. Sodrznik never seemed to be in any trouble, and would end up winning by a good 3 second margin.
“We running good for a team.” said Sodrznik, who is still very much new to the English language. “I so happy to be winning. I am feeling really good, and my team is good, too. I drove hard, good and hard and we win, nice job from team and every support[er].”
Zbynek Hrabak suffered an issuen on his #55 Carson Toyota, and would retire in the final 18th position after his crew members worked relentlessly on an engine issue that they just couldn’t solve. Hrabak is a promising prospect who has shown good signs of potential so far, but clearly the results haven’t come just yet.
“For team like us, we need to just go and try harder. We not the best team, we pretty new here, so we got to learn to be better and I think we can do it. We all are good guys here.”
