Time for the new season! Today was July 1, the start of Free Agency, huge moves made like we've seen all offseason.

Phil Kessel traded to the Penguins in a huge trade, should be great for Pitt.

Jack Eichel signed with Buffalo.

My team picked up Francois Beauchemin and Blake Comeau, so overall it's been a great offseason so far.

Leafs are picking up 15% of Kessel's salary over the next few years, plus we got rid of Spaling's 2.2 mil cap hit. Really, on this day our only loss of note was Paul Martin.

Paul Martin has been slowing down as of late, I think he's like 34 years old anyway. I'm really glad my team didn't go after him.

Paul Martin has been slowing down as of late, I think he's like 34 years old anyway. I'm really glad my team didn't go after him.

I was thinking more of a veteran presence in the locker room rather than as a producer on the ice

Quebec and Las Vegas were only two teams that submitted applications for expansion.

Looks like those two will be the expansion teams.

Plus Seattle, barring a new arena, is the first relocation destination should a team like Florida or Arizona decide to relocate.

Looks like Vegas' team will be named the "Black Knights". I would have preferred something like the "Aces" but I guess this one is alright. Quebec will probably take the Nordiques name back. Funny because my Avalanche were relocated from Quebec so we'll see how each team does. Although I'm not expecting Vegas to do well after 1-2 years.
