| So, I've been having some troubles with making a base for a car that I'm painting. I've looked up some older YouTube tutorial videos, but nothing seems to work for me. I've tried using the Paths tool, and whenever I try to create a new layer on that path so I can fill it with the paint bucket, the path disappears. Any help on creating a base would be much appreciated. | |

| Sorry, didn't see you replied lol.
Anyways, I usually start on the base color layer. Here it is:
1. Grab the Paths tool and have design selected. Make paths to create the base design, and use the edit feature to bend, curve, or whatever to it, to make it to your liking.
2. When you are done drawing the base, hit Selection from Path.
3. Next, create a new layer.
4. Grab the fill bucket or gradient tool and choose a color.
5. Click inside the selection to fill it. You should have a base now.
Stroking a base.
1. Right click the layer you put the base on, and click Alpha to Selection.
2. The go to Select-->Grow, and choose the amount to grow. I usually grow by 3 on a 1024 template and 5 or 6 on a 2048 template.
3. Create a new layer under the base you made, and go to Edit-->Fill with bg/fg color.
You can alternatively use this method. It requires less steps. But I personally don't like it as well.
1. Right click the base you made, Alpha to Selection.
2. Go to Edit-->Stroke Selection.

| If you still want a good tutorial, Mertz had a decent one a while back, I don't know if it's still up. If it is, good luck hearing him over Nickelback! | |

It is, that's actually how I learned, except for some reason, it was missing the path to selection part.
