Carl Jones Dies At Blue Ridge

While battling for position with multiple cars, Tyson Lautenschlager spun, causing a big pileup on the backstretch. Carl Jones in the 59 got loose and spun down the backstretch. His car went up the track in turn 3 and was hit in the driver's door by #84 Brandon Ultsch. Then, he was hit by the 34 of Kody Lachner, who flipped down the track. Jones was killed as a result of the 84 plowing into him. He died of severe head injuries and MANY other injuries. Carl was a 29 year old rising rookie in AERS for Ashbet Racing. Unfortunately, he had to go early. His cousin Fred was running near him when this happened, "(cry) (sniff) (shakes head) Why?........(cry) (sniff) Why does this have to happen? (shakes head) My prayers are with Aunt Judy and Uncle Will. (sigh) Goodbye Carl, im really gonna miss ya man!!!(sniff)". Jonathon Ringer, current points leader was on his way to the track when he heard the news, "Well, R.I.P Carl. You were a great friend and racer. My prayers are with your family".

Reporter: Herb Cilantro, you're making your third AERS start of the season, at a track that many consider the most chaotic on the circuit. Knowing you managed not only to qualify at that track, but to finish in the top 10...does it boost your confidence as a driver?

Herb: Oh my god... I feel so bad for him. I mean...he was only 29...I just don't know why this had to happen...I'll be right back.

(Herb walks to his hauler)

NEWS FLASH: In the wake of Carl Jones' death, 426 Motorsports is reportedly testing new safety advancements for their racecars, such as strengthened roll cages and energy-absorbing foam between the roll bars and door panel. The first car to use these advancements will be Chassis #5, the same car that Herb raced in the qualifying race.

team owner: Dave Ashbet: "we're glad that 2 of our cars made it, but that wasn't the race we wanted. If i could jhust start over this qrace, i would choose to have all cars out instead of carl dieying. i will be attending his funearal on sunday. i wish the best to his family".

driver: James Park: "ah well yunno, we had a strong day and all, but that wasn't what the team needed to heer. i will miss carl. hes a great friend and car racer. he has tought me many things about maintaning a good attitude and not starting fights, even though i really want to".

With this season progressing as far as it has (even if it's only four races), I feel like having a team that's not racing for points will just take opportunities away from the other full-time organizations who are working hard to make even one race. So 426 Motorsports will not be entering another car.
