Bruce Wilkinson in testing crash at Langhorne; unhurt

The one-mile dirt track located in central Pennsylvania has seen some nasty accidents, most notably one in 1951 that almost killed a driver. Bruce Wilkinson has just discovered what it's like to get bitten by the Big Left Turn.

He was testing a car for the AERS last weekend at the track, turning laps that were well on pace with everyone else. An unknown piece of debris on the track cut Bruce's right front tire in Turn 2, which launched his car up the track. He plowed the through the steel guardrail, and nosedived off the grassy enbankment; doing several rolls before the car came to rest on it's wheels. Testing was haulted. Safety crews ran to the scene. After some time, the small crowd saw Bruce climb out under his own power. After further inspection at a nearby hospital, Bruce is shown to have been uninjured.

"We didn't have a whole lot of time to react to it when the tire did go down," says Wilkinson. "We were just running the high line, and all of a sudden, I hear a large bang from the front of the car. It darted right, and it broke through the guardrail. That's when I saw at least a four-feet enbankment of grass below me, and that's when I knew I was in trouble."

Track personnel have no idea how long it could take to replace the guardrail.

Yikes! Glad to see Bruce is okay. Man, talk about adrenaline rush after that episode.
